Overview
Beneath Thornwood's oldest foundation stones, in sub-levels that are not marked on any architectural plan, the Hollows cluster near a specific wall and hum at a frequency that makes students dizzy. The frequency does not match any of the ten traditions. It is stable in a way nothing else at Thornwood is. Alice has calculated its resonance pattern and found it corresponds to no known stream-filter.
The Stilled is the twelfth tradition — filtered through stasis. The point where change stops. Not ice, not death. The pause between moments. The held breath. The space between the tick and the tock.
What It Does
Where every other tradition is about change — growth, unraveling, mending, movement — the Stilled is about stopping. Holding a moment perfectly. Preventing decay, preventing transformation, preventing time itself from moving forward within a bounded space.
If unlocked, the Stilled would give someone the ability to freeze the Loom's cracks — to hold the membrane in place permanently. This sounds like salvation.
It might be a prison.
What Is Down There
The chamber exists in a permanent present-tense. Nothing inside has changed since the Loom first formed. The leak that feeds it is perfectly stable — the one crack that hasn't moved in fifty thousand years.
The chamber contains something. The Hollows know. They have been humming its frequency since the academy was built. What that something is — and whether it should be disturbed — is a question that will divide Thornwood when the answer becomes unavoidable.
Notable

- Located beneath Thornwood's deepest sub-levels
- The Hollows cluster near its location and hum at an unidentified frequency
- The debate over whether to open the chamber is the philosophical climax of the cross-series arc
