Overview
Elemental Binding, commonly called The Bond, is the tradition of forming partnerships with fundamental forces. It is the rarest form of Heartcraft -- the ability to bond with wind, storm, earth, fire, and the raw ancient energies that predate human magic.
The key distinction: Binders do not control elements. They partner with them. The wind doesn't obey Dorothy. The wind cooperates with Dorothy, when it chooses to, on terms they negotiate together.
How It Works
The Bond requires surrender -- not of self, but of the illusion of control. An element has been wind for billions of years. A human has been alive for twelve. The partnership succeeds when the Binder understands this imbalance and approaches with respect rather than command.
Successful Binding produces effects of enormous scale: weather manipulation, geological shifts, atmospheric control. Failed Binding produces the same effects, uncontrolled.
The Risk
Losing yourself in the element. Becoming more storm than person. The Bond's risk is dissolution -- not death, but transformation into something that is no longer human enough to remember being human.
